Musk caused controversy last month when he said the company would start charging users $20 per month for their checkmark. That later became $8 per month to have an account that is verified. Musk said users with verification would have 90 days to join the paid program or their Blue Tick would be taken away. In response, thousands of prominent and regular Twitter users hit out at the plan. Despite the backlash, Twitter did debut its monthly verification scheme as well as an “Official” checkmark. That “Official” tag lasted less than 24 hours, while the monthly Blue Tick subscription was also taken away. Twitter has since said it has no plans to relaunch that verification system until it can reduce impersonator accounts. Musk said Twitter would ban impersonator accounts without warning but it is a long battle ahead.

Multi-Color System
In a new tweet, the chief twit says that a new multi-color verification will launch as soon as next Friday. This new method will allow businesses to receive a gold checkmark, while government officials get a grey checkmark. There will be a blue checkmark for individuals and it will be available to anyone willing to pay the $8 per month. In other words, the Blue Tick will no longer be for influential people such as journalists, celebrities, or other public figures.
