Windows 10 21H1 was launched in May 2021 and Microsoft recently said the build is coming to the end of servicing (EOS) in three month time. With that in mind, users on 21H1 will soon no longer get feature or security updates. To overcome this, they will need to update to a newer version of Windows. While Microsoft still supports newer Windows 10 builds, the company says 21H1 users should skip Windows 10 and move to the newer Windows 11. Microsoft’s announcement says the following: “IMPORTANT All editions of Windows 10, version 21H1 will reach the end of service on December 13, 2022. After December 13, 2022, these devices will not receive monthly security and quality updates. These updates contain protection from the latest security threats. To continue receiving security and quality updates, we recommend that you update to the latest version of Windows.”

Mabel Gomes, Senior Communications Program Manager at Microsoft, took to the Microsoft Tech Community to remind users that Windows 11 awaits. It is worth noting Windows 10 21H1 will update automatically to the newest eligible Windows build anyway. However, many users – especially those in enterprise – put a block on these updates. It is these users Microsoft is reminding. It is also worth noting there will be some 21H1 users who cannot upgrade to Windows 11 because of device compatibility requirements.
