This expansion has been a long time coming considering Top Gun: Maverick was due to launch originally in 2020. Since then the movie has been delayed multiple times due to the COVID pandemic. While other movies moved to streaming, Tom Cruise was insistent Maverick would debut in cinemas. That meant Flight Simulator also needed to wait to release content related to the movie. With Top Gun: Maverick winning good reviews, the expansion if landing on Microsoft Flight Simulator and is likely to receive similar plaudits. Arriving on Wednesday, players are already discussing the quality of the expansion, which features planes and locations from the Top Gun franchise. This is a free update that includes a special livery for the F/A-18E Super Hornet, training missions for the same plane, and a challenge to land on an aircraft carrier.

The Super Hornet training missions will help pilots in the game learn to take-off unrestricted, and do high-speed manoeuvres, and low altitude stunts. Soon you will be like Pete “Maverick” Mitchel himself. When you complete the training, Flight Sim offers five challenges that include navigating canyons or above mountains at huge speeds. Furthermore, access to hypersonic aircraft from the movie will allow you to reach speeds of Mach 10 and fly into the stratosphere. Players can download the new expansion for free on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and PC.
