An official blog post confirms that the Dev Channel of the Chromium Edge preview now has enterprise features turned on. These are available by default and support or full deployment is available through documentation and pilot and production environments. If you are unfamiliar with Dev channel releases, they arrive weekly and for enterprise users are available at https://www.microsoftedgeinsider.com/enterprise. Consumers also have access to the Canary channel, which is update daily, but organizations don’t get this branch. Microsoft will also roll out a beta channel of stable releases at some point, but it is unclear if this will be for enterprise. One of the most interesting features for enterprise users is Internet Explorer mode. As the name suggests, this tool integrates IE11 into Chromium Edge. With the mode, users can switch between modern and legacy tools efficiently and securely.

Microsoft has created this feature because it knows many organizations are still reliant on older web plugins and IE11. Many web apps on the legacy browser are critical to enterprises and they can now work between both seamlessly in Edge. Elsewhere for enterprise users, Microsoft has announced offline isntallers for Chromium Edge on Windows 10, 8/8.1, 7, Windows Server, and MacOS. Furthermore, users can now sign in with Azure Active Directory for multiple profiles. Looking ahead, Microsoft says enterprise users on the new Edge experience will receive the Information Protection feature on Windows 10. Also in a “future update”, the browser will get integrated deployment with System Center Configuration Management and support for 110 languages.
