As Samsung continues to lead the folding market with its Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 smartphones, Google’s interest reportedly remains in developing a Pixel foldable. It is unlikely such a handset would entirely replace the current flagship range. In other words, don’t expect the Pixel 7 to be a foldable. Instead, it is more likely there will be a new category of Pixel smartphone. The latest rumor of Google’s ongoing interest comes from Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC). Young claims Google is still developing the device with an eye on launching it this year.

So, far from cancelling the handset, Google is moving full steam ahead, and young says panel production for the folding display will begin in Q3 of this year. Maybe a Q4 launch is then possible for the device. That would fit into Google’s usual cycle of launching smartphones during late fall. Young also shares some specification for the screen, which will have a 120Hz refresh rate. It will also reportedly be smaller than the Galaxy Fold 3. Previous information points to a higher price tag than Samsung folding flagship. It is worth noting Samsung has been reducing its prices as the Fold products reach maturity.
